Kathy has always had a strong interest in woodworking. She began making birdhouses after noticing how much wood was wasted at construction sites. She became a "Dumpster Diving Diva" where she would get most all of her "supplies".  She also makes beautiful bandsaw boxes.
Her grandfather, Cleo "Pop" Powell, was a well known Hartwell native who made caskets and cedar chests in a shop on Depot Street back in the 30's and 40's.
She relocated to Hartwell after having lived for 32 years on St. Simons Island
where she retired as the local parks and recreation manager.
Kathy is co-owner of Hang It Up Gallery and Studios
